Why Get an Online Education?

July 11th, 2008

With more and more adults wanting to go back to college to either receive their first college degree, or attain an advanced degree to further an existing career, the choices between a traditional brick-and-mortar university and an online university seem all at once clear and confusing. Why choose one over the other, and what are the differences between the two?

Getting an education at a traditional university is still a popular option due to the social interactivity with other students, physical contact with your professors and so on. There is also the fact that you can go to actual labs and use equipment that will be used in your career, something an online education lacks. There are also downside's, such as having to physically travel to classes and being on a more rigid schedule due to having to actually be in the classroom when classes are underway.

Getting an online education through an accredited online university -- such as those at our sister site, Earn a College Degree -- is becoming increasingly more popular. This is due to the convenience of taking classes at home as well as more flexibility of taking classes in a more open timetable, such as at night or on the weekends. These benefits are indeed impressive, but there are downside's as well. Earning an online degree is convenient, but you can miss out on certain aspects of going to an actual university, such as the social or personal contact aspect, and hands on usage of tools and equipment.

So while both an online education as well as going to a real university have their upsides and downside's, it's up to you to decide which approach to your education works best for you. If you choose an online education -- as more and more people are doing at places like Axia College Of University Of Phoenix -- make sure it's through an accredit university like those on Earn a College Degree. Then you can be sure of your personal success.
